Walter Spies is a Russian-born German artist who left a profound legacy and influence on Indonesia’s artistic heritage, all within a short span of his life. A painter, musician, scholar of languages, choreographer, anthropologist, film maker, Spies was an exceptionally talented maestro of multiple disciplines. Walter Spies' art are one of the rarest and most elusive.
Due to his untimely death at 46, and the loss of works during war in Europe and Indonesia, there are only a handful of drawings known to still exist.
